Year Eleven Itinerary


Below is a list of the major places we will visit during year eleven of our voyage.

British Virgin Islands

All  major islands

On finishing any work on the boat we are getting done in Saint Martin, we sail northwest to the BVIs and clear in at Spanish Town, then head for Bitter End for a stop before sailing on to  Anagada.  From there, we sail back to West End, then onto Cane Garden Bay before crossing to Jost Van Dyke  for four stops.  Then we sail to Great Tobago Island, then turn south and clear out at Soper's Hole.

US Virgin Islands

St. John and St. Thomas

Leaving the BVIs we now clear into the USVIs at Coral Bay, on St. Johns Island.  After making another stop at Great Cruz bay, we sail to Redhook Bay on St. Thomas Island, then sail around for a stop at Buck Island, before heading back to St. Thomas, which is our port of exit from the USVIs.

Spanish Virgin Islands

Culebra

We clear in and out of the Spanish Virgin Islands at Culebra, spending a few days here before sailing on west.

Puerto Rico

San Juan, Arecibo, Mayaguez

We clear into Puerto Rico at the capital, San Juan.  After a few days to visit the city, we sail west to Arecibo, then on around to the southern end of the island where we clear out at Mayaguez.

Dominican Republic

Boca Chica, Santa Domingo, Bahia de Las Calderas, Barahona

It  time around, we visit the southern shores of the Dominican Republic, clearing in at Boca Chica, then sailing west to Santa Domingo and then on to Bahia de Las Calderas.  We clear out of the country at Barahona.

Jamaica

Port Royal 

Having visited Jamaica in the past, we don't plan to stay long and are just using it as a stop on the way to Grand Cayman.

Grand Cayman


Cayman Brac, Little Cayman, Grand Cayman

We plan to stop at all three islands of the Grand Cayman chain to do some awesome scuba diving!  My favorite dive of all time was in a place called Bloody Bay, on Little Cayman, so we want to spend some time enjoying all the dive locations.  We will clear in on Cayman Brac, then sail on to Little Cayman.  And, on reaching Grand Cayman, we will stop at Gun Bay, then sail along the north shore to Mitchells Creek, and finally clear out at Hog Sty Bay.

Archipelago of San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina

Providencia and San Andres

We will stop at the two main islands in this Archipelago that belongs to Columbia.  First, we clear in at Providencia, and then on to San Andres where we will clear out.  These two island stops will break up the long passage to San Blas Islands.

Bocas Del Toro Archipelago

Bocas Del Toro, Kusapin, Isla Escudo de Veraguas


From San Andres, we sail to Bocas Del Toro where we clear into Panama.  We then sail to Kusapin, then on to Isla Escuado de Varaguas, a short top on our way to the San Blas Islands.

San Blas

Portobelo, El Porvenir, Guasirdup, West Cayos, East Cayos, Palm

After a brief stop in Portobelo on our way to the San Blas Islands, we stop in El Porvenir to get out San Blas cruising permit.  Then we sail a loop around some of the islands, stopping at Guasirdup, West Cayos, East Cayos, and Palm, before returning to El Porvenir.

Panama Canal

Shelter Bay, Lago Gatun, Panama City

It is now time to leave the Atlantic and cross to the Pacific Ocean via the Panama Canal.  We get prepared at the Shelter Bay Marina, then go through the first set of locks and enter Lago Gatun, where we spend the night.  The following day we make our way to the second set of locks and go down to the Pacific Ocean, where we pull into Panama City to reprovision for our next South Pacific voyage.

Pearl Islands

Isla Contadora, Ensenada Playa Grande

Once we leave Panama City, we'll make a short run to the Pearl Islands and stop at Isla Contadora and Ensenada Playa Grande and wait for a weather window to sail down south to Equador.

Equador

Esmeraldas

We sail south to Esmeraldas and clear into Equador for a stay while we wait for the right weather window to head west across the Pacific to the Marquesas Islands.

Marquesas Islands

Hiva Oa, Nuku Hiva, Ua Pu, Tahuata, Fatu Hiva


We cross the Pacific from Equador to the Marquesas Islands for our second visit, ten years later.  We will once again make landfall at Atuona, on Hiva Oa. Then we work our way around the Marquesas Islands before finally departing from Hanavave, headed for the Tuamotu Atolls..

Tuamotu Atolls

Raroa, Taenga, Makemo, Kaitu, Raraka, Kauehia, Fakarava, Toau, Apataki

We sail a westerly course through the Tuamutu Atolls, stopping at Raroa, Taenga, Makemo, Kaitu, Raraka, Kauehia, Fakarava, Toau, and finally Apataki,. where we will pull S/V Lynx out of the water for the summer.
