Year One Itinerary

Below is a list of the major places we will visit during year one of our voyage.

West Coast of US and Mexico

California, USA to Baja, Mexico

If we build the boat in Southern California we will make our way south down the outside of the Baja Peninsula all the way to Cabo San Lucas, and then cross to Puerto Vallarta.


Marquesas Islands

Hiva Oa, Nuku Hiva, Ua Pu, Tahuata, Fatu Hiva

After a 15-18 day crossing from Mexico, across the equator, to the Marquesas, we make landfall at Atuona, on Hiva Oa.  Then we work our way around the Marquesas Islands before finaly departing from Hanavave, headed for the Tuamotu Atolls.


Tuamotu Atolls

Raroia, Taenga, Makemo, Katiu, Raraka, Fakarava, Toau, Apataki, Rangiroa, Tikehau atolls and then Makatea Island. 

After arriving at the first atoll, Raroia, we work our way up the chain going northwest, ending at Tikehau before turning southwest for Makatea Island on our way to the Society Islands.


Society Islands

Tahiti, Moorea, Huahine, Raiatea, Bora Bora, Maupiti.

Arriving in Papeete, Tahiti, we tour each of the islands, working out way west before finally departing from Maupiti for Samoa, though we make a couple of short stops on the way at Maupiha'a and Suwarrow.


American Samoa

Tau, Ofu, Tutuila, Upolu, Savai'i

We arrive at the southern end of American Samoa, and may stop, with Q'Flag at Tau and/or Ofu before sailing on to Pago Pago to clear into the country.  After exploring American Samoa, we leave from Pago Pago sailing toward Tonga.


Kingdom of Tonga

Niuatoputapu, Vava'u, Ha'apai

We clear into Tonga at Niuatoputapu, then head south to the Vava'u island group.  After touring the islands there, we had further south to the Ha'apai group, where we hope to see whales!  After out time in those island, we turn our bow west and head for Fiji.



Outer Islands

We have to clear in at Savusavu, but we turn around and head back to the outer islands that we passed through on the way there.  We then go clockwise around those small atolls, ending up at Suva to clear out, before swing around again to head south toward Ono i Lau and then Minerva Reef, where we will wait for a weather window to sail to New Zealand.


New Zealand

Te Ika-a-Maui (North Is.) and Te Waipounamu (South Is.)

We clear into the country at Opua, then head down the eastern side of the North Island, eventually reaching Wellington.  We cross the Cook Strait and reach the South Island, at Picton, then make our way around to Nelson.  We wait there for a good weather window to head for Sidney, Australia.




We cross the ditch to Australia, arriving at Sidney just in time for Christmas and the New Year's Eve fireworks show in Sidney Harbour.
